New FHSS Receivers?
Hi Steve! I have a question, I have been using FrSky receivers with a Futaba FASST transmitter for over ten years now and love them. Recently I have not been able to find them. Has FrSky stopped making them? I would personally like to see something more than seven channels in a FASST receiver, maybe 10 or 12. -Kerry Hey Kerry, Greetings from Southern California. Thanks for the question. And thank you for liking our products. This question involves a classic. Futaba FHSS. This was Futaba's first protocol on 2.4ghz and it was the industry standard. If you think about it, if you were going to start a radio company like the owner of FrSky did, wouldn't you do your research? Wouldn't you find the industry leading protocol and try to figure out how it works? The FHSS protocol was reversed engineered and it gave us insight into the design process. We also figured out how to improve upon it. The original ACCST was a big hit because it was superior to anything else in the market at the time. It was beloved and became an instant classic. Since that time Futaba went to more protocols including FAAST and FAASTEST protocols which are difficult to reverse engineer. FrSky also moved away from being a clone protocol company. Over time, people have moved on from FHSS protocols and the demand has dropped. The last time I checked we had 200 units of the Delta 8 left at headquarters.
There is dying demand for these products, though we do get asked about them from time to time. Bruce at A&E stocks old FHSS receivers in the United States (AERCProducts.com). I can bring in more inventory from HQ on a shipment, as few or as many as people may need. We will not make more of these unless a dealer specifically orders more and meets the MOQ. I have these conversations with people from time to time. Sometimes they are just getting back into the hobby and sometimes they are seeing the writing on the wall. Things have changed over the years. When these receivers were popular people were saying things like "8 channels? My gosh, you'll never need more than five channels!" Now we're living in an era where we're EDF jets are using 12 channels. Things have changed. If you've gotten 10 years out of a transmitter you've got your money's worth. The transmitters out today such as the FrSky X20S are night and day better than transmitters of just a few years ago. Instead of continuing to invest in aging technology, I high suggest a more modern radio. From time to time I do run across someone who is older, living on a fixed income, and not super motivated to learn anything new. For these people I believe it's important that when we're done with a radio system that we put the receivers up for sale and sell it off cheap so that they can continue to enjoy the technology the rest of their natural lives. The final answer is that FrSky will not continue on with the FHSS compatible protocols, and when these Delta 8s are all sold, we'll be done with FHSS forever. Unless someone comes along and pays for the MOQ.
