FrSky X14 Hands on Review X14 is the optional green upgraded paint We’ve all gone through this in the hobby, we help someone else get started.  All the knowledge and wisdom you share is half-listened to.  You tell them to buy a good transmitter so they don’t have to keep rebuying it.   Yet, they have planes on their mind.     The next thing you know, it’s a few years down the road and they have more than 20 planes, the wrong transmitter, the wrong receivers and now they want to listen to your advice on transmitters?   How do we break the cycle? Thankfully we now offer the FrSky  Twin X14.  Though it’s a budget friendly radio, it’s a bit demeaning to think of it as a trainer radio or a beginner transmitter. The X14 stands on its own as a very good transmitter.  Though it’s affordable, it offers the full Monty, unadulterated Ethos experience for the up and coming RC flying junkies.   X14 pilots won’t need to buy a more expensive t...

Build model in Ethos Simulator, move to your radio.

Image
Today we're working on two great things. The first is the question I get all, the time, and I do mean all the time. Can I make a model in Ethos Simuator and move it to my radio? Sure thing! I know this is going to make a lot of people very happy. You will need to make sure that your transmitter and Ethos Simulator are on the same version. If they're not, it may not work. So, what are we looking at here? I named the file FM DEMO in the transmitter. But at the bottom it's also called fm demo.bin.  In case you didn't catch it, it's lower case only.   This is the file we'll need to search for! What you can do to save time is in Windows, go to File Explorer (Windows Key + F) go to the C drive, users, find your name or the account you use, and then enter the following information. C:\Users\<user name>.  You'll want to go here to save some time, otherwise if you search your entire C drive you'll look through many thousands of windows file...

No, your receiver isn't dead!

Image
I no longer encourage having people send in their receivers for service, it's a waste of postage! If your receiver is dead, dead, dead, and the light only blinks for a moment before going out, do not fear, you can get it back. What is going wrong? It's usually one of two issues. A) Firmware mismatch 1) Ethos Firmware 2) Internal Module 3) Firmware of the receiver These three things need to be up to date at the same time. 1) Ethos Firmware- This is updated when you use Ethos Suite. If you're not familiar with using Ethos Suite, here's a video on using Ethos Suite .   Make sure you have a USB Data cable, and not charge cable.  2)  Your internal module needs to be updated.  People often assume that since they have used Ethos Suite the internal module  goes along for the ride. It doesn't  You can use the FRSK Flasher in Ethos Suite (or Internal Module  in Ethos Suite 1.5 and above).  There's a video on how to flash your internal...

FrSky TD-SR10 Flight Test

FrSky's stabilized receiver line has been out for the past 8 years if not a bit longer.  It wasn't until 2019 that the line started to pickup speed.  In 2023 the line went into hyperdrive. as the entire Archer Plus line was rolled out which included  the Arche Plus SR10+ and the Arche Plus SR8.  Toward the end of the year the Archer Plus SR6 rolled out for micro builds, and one option included a 5 amp ESC.  Of interest to the majority of fixed-wing pilots is the  Tandem TD SR line of receivers.  This started off with the TD SR18 and TD SR10.  Both have XT30 connectors.   Thus, this was ideally suited for people flying fuel powered planes.    Now as we kick off  2024, two new Tandem stabilized receivers emerge.  The  TD SR10 and TD SR6.  These are offered without XT30 connectors.  At an MSRP of $90 and $60 respectively, this is a receiver that is A)     Dual Band 2.4ghz and 900mhz B) ...
